#WIAW: Chicken/Tofu Shawarma and Chickpea Salad

#WIAW: Chicken/Tofu Shawarma and Chickpea Salad

My husband dislikes Mediterranean food, claiming it is bland and boring. I, being the strong-minded woman that I am, have made it my mission to convince him that Mediterranean food is good. Just like I have made it my mission to feed him vegetables on a daily basis…but that’s for another blog post.

tofu shawarma

I made this recipe and he loved it! The shawarma and the salad are simple but bursting with flavor! I used tofu in place of chicken for myself and it turned out wonderfully! Just be sure to wring out all the water from the tofu beforehand. I do this by placing the tofu on a few paper towels and placing a heavy pan on top of the tofu block to squeeeeze out all the water.

Tacoma Fitness Bucket List

Tacoma Fitness Bucket List

I have been pleasantly surprised with the fitness community in Tacoma. In addition to having a great YMCA system, we are lucky to have so many additional fun and unique fitness studios in the city! I have been able to try a few and have had positive experiences at these locations. Here’s a little taste of some of the places on my fitness bucket list.

Friday Faves… GYN Edition

Friday Faves… GYN Edition

Excuse my extended hiatus! It has been so long since I last posted. I have been super busy with weddings and work! But I’m BAAAAACK 🙂

Although I haven’t been able to keep up on my blogging, I have been keeping up on GYN news.  So I thought I’d share some of my favorite women’s health related news stories with you.

Friday Favorites 9.4.2015

I can’t believe its already Friday! I am spending the weekend on the Columbia River….working. Its ok though! I get to spend the weekend delivering babies and laying around in a nice little condo. Its actually a pretty nice pseudo-getaway. Plus, I am pretty sure the Army Surgeon will be spending all weekend sleeping. He has been working SO MUCH lately!

Here are my favorites for the week!

Favorite TV show:

BOJACK HORSEMAN! Ok, so my husband has been RAVING about this show for weeks! Although I did not believe him at first, he is absolutely right (I hate admitting that) – this show is clever, witty, and hilarious! It is about a washed up 90s sitcom star – Bojack Horseman. It stars the always funny Will Arnett as Bojack. It also features Amy Sedaris and Aaron Paul. Try it, you’ll love it. It’s available on Netflix streaming.

Favorite Book (right now):

So I’m re-reading The Girl on the Train for our revived book club, and I’m loving it! There are so many things that I did not appreciate the first time around, possibly because I was sleep-deprived and stressed (i.e. an OB resident) when I read it. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book!

Favorite Blog Post:

Crafty Coin – Eating on a Budget at Whole Foods

I enjoy shopping at Whole Foods. I love the variety of options they have – especially those that cater to vegans and vegetarians. They have a great selection of produce as well. However, they can be pretty expensive. While it may not be financially wise to do ALL of your grocery shopping there, there are ways you can save money on what you do buy. Check out the Crafty Coin’s post for great tips on saving $$ at Whole Foods!

Favorite Clothing Rental Service:

Rent the RunwayRent the Runway! If you have not tried this, you must check it out! RTR offers hundreds of designer dresses, jumpsuits, and other clothing items for rent. You can do a 4 day or an 8 day rental. I use RTR all the time for formal events. The quality and fit of their dresses is unbelievable. I recently rented the dress above for a wedding and loved it. The fit was perfect, and it was so much fun to dance around in! If you are interested, leave a comment below and let me know. I can email you a link to receive $20 off your first purchase.

Favorite Quickie Workout App: Sworkit

I learned of this app from reading the Wellness newsletter from my residency training program! This app is awesome if you want to workout on the go. You can plug in what type of workout you want – cardio, yoga, stretching, etc. and how much time you have, and this app provides a workout for you! I love that it requires almost no gym equipment and helps you squeeze in a workout, even if you have just 5 minutes!

That’s all for now! What are your plans for this holiday weekend?

#WIAW: Mushroom Wellington

Hello everyone! Hope y’all had a great weekend and a wonderful week so far. The Army Surgeon and I went to a beautiful wedding in the mountains this weekend.

crystal mountain wedding

It was a lovely ceremony. We had so much fun dancing the night away with our friends!

thetravelingOB_cakeThey had a DELICIOUS lavender honey wedding cake! I wish I had thought of this flavor combo for our wedding!

We came home and celebrated our OWN wedding anniversary this past Sunday. My little sister brought our cutting cake when she came to visit a few weeks ago, and I thawed it over the weekend. It was butter pecan. It was pretty good but nowhere near as good as fresh wedding cake. We had a casual lunch at the Red Hot – a fun hot dog place in Tacoma. It was perfect for us.
